Subject: Project M-9: Strategic Reassessment & Necessary Compliance

Dr. Erwin,
Following the recent deliberations regarding Nepenthes materanensis and it's observed bioelectrical and neurochemical properties, the Committee has deemed it necessary to advance Phase IV of Project M-9 ahead of schedule. The emergent data from prior controlled exposures indicate significant potential—far beyond initial theoretical projections. As such, we are mandating a controlled live-environment trial within Lab Sector-██ to assess practical application viability.
Your concerns regarding ethical oversight and potential instability have been noted, but are ultimately secondary to the greater objective. We must emphasize that our directives align with national security interests, and certain risks are inherent and acceptable in pursuit of progress. The information you’ve gathered is too valuable to be relegated to theoretical modeling—we require empirical validation in a controlled setting.
To ensure full compliance and mitigate unnecessary administrative intervention, you are expected to:
Conduct a full-scale exposure test with Compound V-9 to observe cognitive and physiological response escalation.
Utilize Class D personnel for direct exposure variables—their contributions will be duly noted in operational records.
Maintain containment integrity at all costs; remote oversight protocols will be in effect to ensure security.
Submit all findings via direct uplink to the HOC’s secured channel immediately upon conclusion.
We recognize your historical reluctance to engage in applications beyond your immediate field of expertise, but it is imperative that you reassess your position. Scientific progress demands sacrifice, and we trust you will not allow personal apprehension to impede the advancement of knowledge.
Your expertise remains indispensable to this endeavor. Let’s not allow idealism to obscure the significance of what we are building here.
The Committee expects your full cooperation. Any deviation will necessitate a formal review of your status within the project. We are confident this will not be necessary.

To the Esteemed Members of the High Oversight Committee,
I have reviewed your directive regarding Project M-9 and the accelerated timeline for Phase IV.
While I maintain serious reservations about proceeding under current conditions, I recognize that my objections have been duly noted—and ultimately dismissed. I would be remiss not to reiterate the instability risks associated with Compound V-9, particularly in live-exposure scenarios. The results from our preliminary trials already indicate that its effects are highly volatile, and we have yet to establish reliable containment protocols should escalation occur beyond expected parameters.
That said, I understand that this decision is no longer mine to contest.
I will proceed with the experiment as scheduled on 24 March 20██, in accordance with the parameters you have outlined. However, I request that:
Full remote monitoring be enabled throughout the trial to ensure real-time documentation of anomalous variables. Containment override failsafes remain accessible to on-site personnel, in the event that intervention becomes necessary. A detailed post-exposure assessment period be mandated before further live trials are considered. This project demands caution, even if you believe that "progress" supersedes prudence. I will do as instructed—but this will be on your hands, not mine.
